In the third book Vango by Timothée de Fombelle, everybody is looking for him. A young Scottish girl, a KGB agent, the Sparrow, and the head of the French Police. The hunted boy Vango darts across Europe by boat, train and dirigible. This enticing story is set in the pre-WWII time period. Once you pick it up, you won’t be able to put it down.

Vango starts with the young boy about to take his monastic vows when someone attempts to kill him and fails. The terrified Vango flees and the search begins. This unsuccessful murder also adds to the tension of the book. Who wants him dead? Why? Fombelle uses flash backs to create a gripping story about Vango’s mysterious past and others’.

One of the story’s other strengths is that the readers must use their imagination to deduce the final fates of Vango and his friends as he makes his zig-zag journey across Europe to find himself.

An excellent page turner.
