I am going to write and publish a children’s book.

We all have these artistic dreams to paint a picture, take a photograph, sing a band, do ballet.

But, this sentence scares me.

It’s like standing at the bottom of a mountain and your only climbing gear is dental floss and tooth picks. Impossible, it would be easier to fly. You should dream about something easier or better yet, read a book, watch a DVD. Relax and try again tomorrow.

But, I can’t.

This sentence haunts me. It drives my spirit. My father taught me that giving up on a dream is one of the worst things that you can do. And my mother taught me, no problem is impossible to solve.

Tackling one huge problem is tough. Sure, everybody knows that. But, how about 6-8 little ones? So, I break down my book into pieces. First, find your main character. Next, secondary characters. Then, setting, plot, conflict. Okay, good, you have these. Great, now write a first chapter, followed by the next one, then another. You have the beginning, now how about a middle and an ending?

Okay, the story is finished. Editing is the same problem. Check spelling, grammar. Does the story work? Does the father in chapter 6 sound like the Russian mobster in Ch.10?
You will check step by step until you are satisfied that you’ve ironed out the wrinkles from your story.

If you are lucky, you will make something that entertains your reader.

P.S- You will need a lot of support from your friends.
